Every brand has a name. Ours has a face, a voice and a pair of hands that smelled of rose water and oil. Lalla Lekbira was our grandmother. This is her story, and the reason we do what we do.
What her name means
In Morocco, Lalla is a title of respect given to women, a little like “Lady”. Lekbira means “the elder” or “the great one”. Together, the name speaks of the place she held in our family: the woman everyone turned to.
A healer from the Atlas Mountains
Lalla Lekbira was an Amazigh woman from the Atlas Mountains. Like many women of her generation, she carried knowledge that was never written down. She knew which plants soothed, which oils protected hair from sun and wind, and how to prepare them by hand. Neighbors came to her for remedies, advice and care. [add a personal memory or detail: a place, a gesture, a phrase she used]
The rituals she passed down
We grew up with her rituals. The weekly hammam, with black soap and the kessa glove. The precious oils warmed between her palms and pressed into our hair. The rose water, the herbs, and the patience. These were not beauty products for her. They were ways of taking care of the people she loved.
From her hands to yours
We, her granddaughters Fadwa and Imane, created Lalla Lekbira to keep these rituals alive and share them beyond our family. We work in small batches, with ingredients from Morocco like prickly pear seed oil, argan oil and rose water. We choose each one because she would have recognized it.
Our signature ingredient is prickly pear seed oil, one of the rarest oils in the world. It takes close to a thousand kilograms of fruit to make a single liter. Learn more: Prickly Pear Oil for Hair.
Two rituals, one intention
Today, our collection is built around two rituals she practiced all her life:
- The Haircare Ritual, centered on prickly pear oil, for soft, shining, protected hair. Discover it
- The Hammam Ritual, with black soap, kessa glove and body polish, for skin as soft as after a Moroccan hammam. Discover it
Each time you use them, you continue something that started long before us, in a house in the Atlas Mountains, with a woman everyone called Lalla Lekbira.
